Ponytail Rollerset with Original Moxie

I scheduled this post to go up yesterday when I was out but somehow the schedule button was still up when I got home *side eye*. For those of you who saw my Ponytail Rollerset & Wrap Post on my main blog page, forgive me for not stating the obvious and saying that I achieved the entire process using my trusty hooded dryer! Talk about major info dismissal! Anyway, now that I've sorted that mishap, back to the products that made it all happen!

So my wash day experience consisted of an overnight pre-poo with Philip Kingsley's Elasticizer Extreme, followed by a wash using the Original Moxie Get Clean No-foam Shampoo and DC using the Kerastase Nutri-Thermique Masque. I've yet to give a review on the No-foam Shampoo so here are my thoughts...

Original Moxie Get Clean No-foam Shampoo| I've used this non-foaming shampoo on more than 4 occasions now and I still don't know where I stand! Thing is I've been on the search for a staple shampoo for some months now because my previous staple is very stripping and only suits up as a clarifying shampoo. I can't quite get my head around the fact that the OM Get Clean Shampoo does not sud up! I'm there in the shower squirting the entire bottle out just to see if the more I use the more likely I am to get some foam out of it!

Perhaps it's just a psychological thing who knows! But at the same time I love the fact that my hair doesn't feel stripped after using it! So what's my conclusion? If we're talking price and whether or not I can afford [£11.50] to buy this product considering my extra squeezing traits, I'll say yes! Despite how much I have used there is still a lot of shampoo left, so until another shampoo suits up, the Get Clean will remain a keeper!

As for the Straight Up Sleek Control & Shape Shifter...

Original Moxie Straight Up Sleek Control | A little bit of this goes a LONG way and the shine it gives is immense. I caressed each section of hair with a dab of the Olive Oil Squalene based product before rolling it and securing it with the roller cover. I trust even this small tub that I have will last an extremely long time, and will also be using it alongside my other favourite sealing oils.

Original Moxie Shape Shifter Re-forming Creme | The idea behind this product is very unique and serves in many different ways. Founder of Original Moxie Rachel Blistein recommended that this be used before blow drying in order to achieve a very soft blowout. As my hair did undergo heat used from the hooded dryer, I decided now would be the best time to use it. It definitely helped smooth out each section of hair before I commenced to roll. I plan on re-purchasing a big bottle in the near future- but once again a little goes a long way so it may take a few months before I do!
Can you tell which product is which? Bottom: Shape Shifter, Top: Straight Up Sleek Control
Freestyled rollers, no comb! All done and ready to go under the dryer...
Multi-tasking #Upping my bride price with this pic wouldn't you agree?!
Check the gloss folks... did I hear Sleek Control?
This technique helps create smoother results on my 7 months post head of hair!  Spot the kink anyone?
Quick length check... I believe it has grown since my big cut in November

Taking control of those Edges | Just Gel Styling Concentrate

At just over 28 weeks post relaxer and into my transition, even a transitioning guide for dummies isn't necessary in telling you that without the creamy crack my edges are #hollering! Like seriously this ish cray #fuzz fuzz fuzz.

It would be one thing being fully natural and having the Coming to America baby curls that you can swirl with a soft brush like an artist, but the multi-texture thing I have going on just doesn't cut it, hence where I hoped the Original Moxie Just Gel Styling Concentrate would come in and work some David Blaine kinda magic.

For those of you who know about my love for a sleek and smooth edge, you'll know the ORS Edge Control stole my heart and made me all puppy dog eyed a few months back, however as the product states... That stuff is just for your edges! Anything beyond the hairline and you'll have a hard head for a week. Perhaps perfect for a footballer, but definitely not a yet to be married chica like myself!

So I took my hair out of braids a few days back and decided to opt for a simple high bun, #rinsed out I hear you scream... yeah I know this... can't help it though! I love me some buns!

Here were my results...
My hair & bun before applying the Gel

Product Description | Alcohol-free styling gel for those with medium to thick hair with just about any degree of curl who want definition and frizz control.

Product Ingredients | Linum usitatissimum* (Flax) Seed Gel, Aqua (Water), Vegetable Glycerin***, Aqueous Extracts of Hypericum perforatum* (St. John’s Wort), Yucca glauca**(Yucca) Root, Emblica officinalis (Indian Gooseberry), Equisetum arvense*(Horsetail), Chondrus crispus**(Irish Moss), Azadirachta indica* (Neem), & Zingiber officinalis (Ginger) Root, Aloe barbadensis Leaf Preserved With Potassium Sorbate*** & Citric Acid***, Ricinus communis (Castor) Oil, Sodium Lactate, Potassium Sorbate***, Polyquaternium-10, Polyaminopropyl Biguanide, Sorbitol***, Acacia Gum, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Honey (and) Maltodextrin***, Tocopherol*** (Vitamin E), Panthenol, Citric Acid***, Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, Essential Oils of Citrus reticulata blanco var. tangerina (Tangerine), Citrus sinensis (Sweet Orange), Vanilla planifolia (Vanilla), Cananga odorata (Ylang Ylang), Jasminum grandiflorum (Jasmine), Santalum album (Sandalwood), Litsea cubeba, & Thuja plicata (Cedar Leaf).*Certified Organic        ** Wildharvested        *** Natural Source

Thoughts | Well the pictures sort of speak for themselves, the Gel just couldn't handle my edges, at least not the way I would have like it to. I even went as far as adding some more gel a second time around, hoping that the extra dollop would seduce to Gel into giving me the results I was after. I can't quite put a finger on why the Gel didn't do the trick for me because it sure has worked wonders on other folks. Nevertheless when all else fails find another use right? The Gel did work a treat at helping me define/give hold to my twist out fringe which was rocked to a hair event last weekend. So I guess it is still a keeper for now!

Twist-Out success with Original Moxie!!!

If you read my post on LYT you'll be more than aware that I conquered my twist-out fear and braved what has now become the new hairstyle love of my life!

I used Original Moxie from start to finish and all in all I absolutely love the results! Here is how I conquered the Twist-Out!

Original Moxie Twist-Out Regime

Tools [styling only]
- Denman Brush -
- Butterfly hair clamps -
- Tail comb -
- Small Perm rods -

Pre-poo
Original Moxie Emollience Penetrating Moisture + Original Moxie Oasis Moisture Gel
[I applied this combo and let it sit on my hair overnight, it definitely beat my initial review of the Emollience Treatment hands down and left me with über soft hair!]

Shampoo
Original Moxie Get Clean No-Foam Shampoo
[I washed with the No-Foam Shampoo which I am still yet to review, undecided on how I feel about no suds in my shamps!]

Deep Conditioner
Original Moxie Re-wind Protein Treatment
[My hair was in serious need of some strength so I applied this treatment and let it sit for the recommended 15 minutes]

Leave-in Conditioner
Original Moxie Everyday Leave-in Conditioner + Original Moxie Oasis Moisture Gel
[I applied a mixture of the OM Leave-in and Moisture Gel throughout my hair. I opted for this combination because I find the OM Leave-in a tad bit too heavy, whereas the addition of the Moisture Gel gave me tremendous slip and moisturised my hair. A dime size amount is definitely the rule of thumb with the Leave-in for me!]

Styling
Original Moxie Lux Locs Styling & Shine + Original Moxie Just Gel Styling Concentrate + Original Moxie Hair Bling High Shine Pomade

Day One
1 - I knew that I wanted some hair to fall across my hair like a fringe so I parted my hair with a tail comb and created squares in my usual fringe area. I detangled each section using a Denman brush and then applied a tiny amount of the styling concentrate to each section for additional hold, whilst then topping this off with a mini dollop of the Lux Locs Styling & Shine cream.

2 - I then began to twist each section of hair and when half way down the twisted segment; I would secure the root of the twist with a bobby pin to avoid unravelling or loose twists.

3 - To secure the bottom of each twist my perm rods came in handy! The ends of my hair are still relaxed so I needed something to help maintain consistent curl.

4 - Headscarf on and hair was left overnight to set!

Day Two
I lightly misted my hair with a homemade moisturising spritz to revitalise my hair. I then warmed my finger tips with the Original Moxie Hair Bling High Shine Pomade and began to unravel each twist.

General Thoughts
I loved the softness the combination of styling products gave, the Lux Locs and Hair Bling were especially kind to my hair and left it soft and bouncy. I had some knot and tangling issues with the styling concentrate but only before realising that this was best mixed with the Lux Locs as opposed to being applied by itself before the Lux Locs cream.

End result ....

Forgive the camera quality, my camera went on vacay with a friend to Dubai!!!

Pre-Shampoo Lovin' | Original Moxie Emollience Pre-Treatment

I'm a complete snob when it comes to products that work for my hair, once I find the 'perfect' product I hold on to it like a mother does her newborn baby... 'no touching please- she needs her beauty sleep!'

Well this product junkie snob trait definitely didn't make things easy for the Original Moxie Emollience Pre-Treatment, which of course had to suit up to my beloved pre-poo staples; LYT Gingernut Brulee Prepoo & Philip Kingsley Elasticizer Extreme!

I decided to use the Pre-Treatment the night before a friends birthday celebration, and here is how it suited up...

I followed the instructions on the Emollience Pre-Treatment label which said to apply to dry hair prior to washing and gently heat to aid penetration, this for me translated to get your GreenHouseEffect on! The Original Moxie Emollience Pre-Treatment is said to be a penetrating oil treatment that restores the correct moisture balance to parched hair, and at 25 weeks post relaxer and having used no heat for over 7 weeks my hair constantly craves moisture, so this was destined to be a winner right?

APPLICATION
Considering the fact that I received a sample size of the Emollience Pre-Treatment, the treatment still went very far, so much so that I was able to save some for a second application! It has a thick buttery consistency and a spicy, minty aroma. I did find the texture a tad bit sticky however this wasn't an issue once I wore my shower cap and let the treatment work it's magic.

WASHING
I let the Emollience Pre-Treatment sit on my hair overnight and was pleasantly surprised by how soft my hair was the next day when I took my shower cap off and was ready to commence with washing. The stickiness had gone and all that was left was soft, damp hair. I definitely think the combination of the GHE Method and the Emollience worked perfectly together.

OVERALL THOUGHTS
I really liked this product, it gave me soft, tangle free hair and definitely played a major role in my evening hairdo success [below]. It took a while to get used to the smell but with such soft results I quickly forgot all about it! I did find that you need a fairly sudsy shampoo to effectively wash the treatment out, but that review is for another day!
I've saved the other half of my tub for a second review combining the Emollience Pre-Treatment with its right hand man the Oasis Moisture Gel! I've heard the results are even better!

All in all Original Moxie worked a treat and as you can see I was all smiles for the evening birthday celebration! I used only Original Moxie products to achieve the look below so the reviews will be flooding in soon!

Till next time!

Original Moxie & LoveYourTresses present - LYT Moxie Style the UK Challenge!!!

After months of hard work and effort Original Moxie finally signed off all legal documents and fused it's way into the UK product market in April 2012!!! The funky and systematic product range caters to several hair types; straight, kinky, curly and what's more has set aside specific lines which cater to the daily needs of dry hair, oily hair, chemically treated hair you name it! A brand committed and dedicated to providing products packed with natural ingredients, Original Moxie has a definite originality and worldwide appeal.

Fortunately for me, founder of Original Moxie [Rachel] teamed up with Black & Brown and has sent an entire selection of products for myself and some other fantastic UK bloggers [NaturalBelle, FusionofCultures,CareForYourHair] to indulge in, try, and review!

As LYT is not affiliated with Original Moxie by law, the review phase will take a similar approach to that of Tola's from MyLongHairJourney, and be featured on a this site rather than on the LoveYourTresses blog. Blogging will continue as usual on LYT but for the complete scoop on my take on Original Moxie products, this site will be the official pit stop!

The review phase/challenge begins this week and will include individual product reviews, hair styles achieved using Moxie products, and the grand finale 'Tug-o-War' a.k.a LYT Product Staples vs Original Moxie Products!!!

Stay tuned!!!

For more information on Original Moxie check out the site here!
